‘The Bachelorette’ *Finally* Started Filming—& It Won’t Be at the Bachelor Mansion

Warning: Spoilers for season 16 of The Bachelorette ahead. Since quarantine started, fans have been desperate for information about Clare Crawley’s season of The Bachelorette. However, as the weeks continue, there seems to be little info around the Bachelorette 2020 release date, cast and spoilers. And while nothing official has been said about season 16 of The Bachelorette, there have been rumors on how ABC will film the next season while the world is on lockdown. Let’s run through everything we’ve heard, shall we?

This post was originally published in April 2020 and will continue to be updated.

Who’s The Bachelorette 2020?

Let’s start with the basics: Who’s the new Bachelorette? Her name is Clare Crawley. She’s 39 years old and is a hairstylist from Sacramento, California. She’s also the oldest ever Bachelorette, but as she reminds fans, with age comes wisdom. “A lot of people put [my age] out there as this negative thing, but for me, it just is more years under my belt, more learning and knowing what I want, what I don’t want and what I won’t settle for,” she told Good Morning America in March.

As for her Bachelor history, Clare was the runner-up on Juan Pablo Galavis’ season of The Bachelor in 2014. After that, she competed on seasons 1 and 2 of Bachelor in Paradise. She also starred on 2018’s Bachelor Winter Games and got engaged to contestant Benoit Beauséjour-Savard on “After the Final Rose.” The two, however, ended their engagement two months after the episode. But it looks like Benoit will be on the upcoming season of The Bachelorette, maybe as a contestant but more likely as someone to give Clare closure.

Who’s in The Bachelorette 2020 Cast?

There are 32 men on Clare’s Bachelorette season. We listed each of them here, but one to watch is Austin (who may or may not have a girlfriend). Matt J., Tyler Cameron’s handsome best friend and roommate, was also a frontrunner for Claire’s season until June 2020 when he was announced as the season 25 Bachelor after thousands of fans signed a petition calling for the franchise to cast its first Black male lead. Of course, this means that Matt will no longer a contestant on Clare’s season.

“My first reaction was, ‘Does this mean I don’t get to meet Clare?,’ because I was looking forward to meeting her,” Matt said in a June 2020 interview on Good Morning America. “I had set aside all this time and we’d gone out to California and been called back for quarantine. I’m super excited for her and her season but I’m looking forward to meeting her eventually.”

As for the other contestants, don’t become too attached to them either. Clare told fans in an Instagram Live in March 2020 that she hopes for more men to apply since her season is postponed due to the coronavirus crisis. “I feel like since we have a break in the show right now, I don’t think it’s too late to submit people. So, submit them, why not? What’s the worst that could happen?” she said.

Chris Harrison also confirmed that the season will be recast with either all new contestants or a mix of old and new contestants. “”The thought that 25, 30, 35 guys—everybody that was able to take time off [then would be able to] come back on The Bachelorette…we don’t have a set time of when we’re going to come back,” he said on an Instagram Live in March 2020. “So, the idea that everybody’s just going to be able to take off work and do this again? Probably very slim. There will be some different guys. Maybe it will be completely different guys. Maybe it will be a mixture. Who knows?”

When’s The Bachelorette 2020 Release Date?

No new release date has been announced, but Reality Steve predicts that season 16 will premiere in September and will air on Tuesdays.

Before quarantine, season 16 of The Bachelorette was set to premiere on May 19 and start filming in mid-March. However, that, of course, has been pushed back after the show announced a hiatus to its production. With the rapidly changing events related to COVID-19, and out of an abundance of caution, Warner Bros. Television Group is halting production on some of our 70+ series and pilots currently filming or about to begin,” ABC said in a statement in March. “There have been no confirmed cases of COVID-19 on any of our productions, but the health and safety of our employees, casts and crews remains our top priority. During this time, we will continue to follow the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control as well as local officials and public health professionals in each city where our productions are based.” was supposed to start production on its next season on March 13.

How Will The Bachelorette 2020 Work?

Clare’s season of The Bachelorette started filming on July 8, 2020, at the La Quinta Resort & Club in La Quinta, California—not the Bachelor Mansion.

As Variety reported in June, the season will be filmed in quarantine, with the cast and crew living on site. Each cast and crew member will be tested before they enter the resort, and there will be regular testing and temperature checks throughout the season. Likewise, no visitors or press will be allowed, so that the production remains quarantined. Because the season is quarantined, this also means that there will be no trips to romantic destinations across the world, as seen in previous seasons of the Bachelor franchise.

“We obviously can’t shoot a dating show with people in close quarters where people aren’t cleared and we know everything is safe,” a source told Variety. “It will be a super safe paradise for everyone to shoot the show.”

As for the resort that will be used for season 16, Us Weekly reports that it’s only 164 miles from the Bachelor Mansion and is a popular hotel for Coachella attendees. The resort, which remains open for estate owners but not guests, will reopen to the public in September, which gives an estimate to when Clare’s season is set to finish filming.

The space is also way bigger than the Bachelor Mansion. The resort spans 1,400 acres and consists of 41 pools, 53 hot spas, 23 tennis courts, five golf courses, seven restaurants and 796 guest rooms. There are also villas and suites with personal pools and hot tubs, which we’re sure will be deserved for the Fantasy Suite portion of the season.
